Holiday Season Security

EARLIER this year, LIRA again engaged with the Knysna Municipality on security measures on the island for the Christmas holidays.
We have been assured that safety officers will be on duty on peak days, while lifeguards will do duty every day at Green Hole.
The southern end of Cearn Drive will become a one-way street over the period.
LIRA, too, has advised Allsound to deploy extra security guards and management on the high holidays.
We trust that KM will keep to its word of 'Zero Tolerance' for any public drinking, overcrowding or unruly behaviour - and we ask all residents and their visitors to abide by the by-laws on drinking, parking, speed limits etc.
LIRA also reminds residents to remain vigilant and not to take our wonderful security service for granted - opportunistic crime does happen!
Do not leave windows or doors open unattended, and arm alarms at night where feasible and when vacating your house.

Carols @ Leisure!

Sunday December 18
7.00 for 7.30pm

Bring family, friends, a picnic and something to sit on. Should it rain (unlikely, according to the forecasts), the Carols will take place the next evening.
Don't miss this special evening!

A fabulous festival!

November's annual Leisure Isle Festival was a huge success - raising the most funds ever for the several local charities who are its beneficiaries - R235 000!
Of course, this, too, is a weekend that delights visitors and shoppers, and fosters the efforts of dozens of Knysna enterprises, traders and craftsmen, and lifts Leisure Isle's already awesome reputation.
Congratulations to new convenor, Niall Johnston, and his enthusiastic committee, as well as all the volunteers who wo/manned the many fund-raising stands - brilliant job done!

FREE WiFi hotspot on Leisure Isle!

AS part of the KnysnaON - the KM/LaserNet project that's bringing high-speed broadband to the town and surrounds - will shortly be setting up a WiFi hotspot in Kingspark (next week we hope), one of several planned for Knysna.
You will be able to access 250Mb per day for free, thereafter there's a nominal fee to pay should you wish to continue with the service.
You will be able to log in within a 50m radius.
KnynsaOn is also offering LI residents the option to sign up for immediate high-speed, uncapped connection - 10Mbps home connection - prior to the fibre optic network being rolled out here next year.
Packages from as little as R999 ex VAT are now available through its wireless radio infrastructure, subject to line of sight. An installation fee of R1 200 applies.
Email KnysnaOn here to apply...

  Membership drive

ONE of LIRA's most challenging tasks is maintaining our membership, the recruitment of new members and doing all we can to persuade them, and the dozens of other non-members, to come on board and also support our work.
Of the 432 properties on LI, some 131 are currently not part of LIRA, for various reasons, some valid, some obscure and incredulous. LIRA's 24/7 proactive security, which consumes some 80% of our budget, is a key reason why Leisure Isle is the paradise it is. All benefit, all should contribute, even if they can only afford a portion of the actual levy.
The Committee was recently joined by Ingrid and Arjen Meter (Steenbok Crescent) who have volunteered to take over the daunting membership portfolio. And a grand team they are proving to be, too! With a very efficient and business-like approach, they have already secured several new members. especially among the many new homeowners on the island.
LIRA thanks our outgoing membership person, Jenny Shields (George Ave), for her great recruitment work over the past two years.
The Committee also thanks another outgoing member, Peter Dieterich (Links Drive), for his meticulous work in whipping our vital database into well-ordered shape. The Meter's have agreed to take on this portfolio, too, from next year.
